  • Connecticut Property Taxes and the State/Local Partnership

    - The most regressive and harmful tax on our businesses and citizens is the property tax. - Connecticut, unlike other states, limits generating revenues locally – almost exclusively to the property tax. - Other revenues generated locally all go to the State and the State refunds a portion of those revenues and calls it “municipal aid”. - When this “municipal aid” is cut because the State needs more of OUR money, tax payers are asked to pay more through property taxes - When the State cannot afford new initiatives they mandate cities and towns to do it for them… forcing property tax increases.

Driving Downtown - Stamford Connecticut USA - Episode 36. Starting Point: https://goo.gl/maps/ALSzDHzfy7G2 . Stamford is a city in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. Economy Among the larger companies with headquarters in Stamford are Vineyard Vines, WWE, Tasty Bite, Pitney Bowes, Gen Re, Frontier Communications, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Crane Co., and Charter Communications. UBS also has its North American headquarters here and its trading floor holds the Guinness World Record as the largest column-less trading floor in the world. The Royal Bank of Scotland moved its North American operations into Stamford in 2009, including its RBS Greenwich Capital subsidiary.[14] In recent years, many large corporations have moved offices outside of the city due to the high rental cost, including Xerox, MeadWestvaco, International Paper, GE Capital, NBC, and Clairol. The Harbor Point development, located in the South End, is one of the largest private-sector development projects in the United States.[15] Many large retail stores, such as Design within Reach and Fairway Market have moved in, along with multiple hedge funds. History In the 1960s and 1970s, Stamford's commercial real estate boomed as corporations relocated from New York City to peripheral areas.[5] A massive urban redevelopment campaign during that time resulted in a downtown with many tall office buildings. The F.D. Rich Co. was the city-designated urban renewal developer of the downtown in an ongoing redevelopment project that was contentious, beginning in the 1960s and continuing through the 1970s. The company put up what was the city's tallest structure, One Landmark Square, at 21 floors high, and the GTE building (now One Stamford Forum), along with the Marriott Hotel, the Stamford Town Center and many of the other downtown office buildings. One Landmark Square has since been dwarfed by the new 35-story Trump Parc condominium tower (topped out), and soon by the 400-foot 39 story Ritz Carlton Hotel and Residences development, another project by the Rich Company in partnership with Cappelli Enterprises.[6] Over the years, other developers have joined in building up the downtown, a process that continued, with breaks during downturns in the economy, through the 1980s, 1990s and into the new century. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stamford,_Connecticut https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g33936-Activities-Stamford_Connecticut.html http://stamford-downtown.com/ http://www.ctvisit.com/ https://twitter.com/CTvisit

Country: United States State: Connecticut County: Fairfield City: Stamford Stamford was known as Rippowam by the Native American inhabitants to the region, and the very first European settlers to the area also referred to it as such. The name was later changed to Stamford after the town Stamford, Lincolnshire, England. The deed to Stamford was signed on July 1, 1640 between Captain Turner of the New Haven Colony and Chief Ponus. By the 18th century, one of the primary industries of the town was merchandising by water, which was possible due to Stamford's proximity to New York. In 1692, Stamford was home to a less famous witch trial than the well-known Salem witch trials, which also occurred in 1692. The accusations were less fanatical and smaller-scale but also grew to prominence through gossip and hysterics. Starting in the late 19th century, New York residents built summer homes on the shoreline, and even back then there were some who moved to Stamford permanently and started commuting to Manhattan by train, although the practice became more popular later. Stamford incorporated as a city in 1893. In the 1960s and 1970s, Stamford's commercial real estate boomed as corporations relocated from New York City to peripheral areas. A massive urban redevelopment campaign during that time resulted in a downtown with many tall office buildings. The F.D. Rich Co. was the city-designated urban renewal developer of the downtown in an ongoing redevelopment project that was contentious, beginning in the 1960s and continuing through the 1970s. Over the years, other developers have joined in building up the downtown, a process that continued, with breaks during downturns in the economy, through the 1980s, 1990s and into the new century. Since 2008, an 80-acre mixed-use redevelopment project for the Stamford's Harbor Point neighborhood has added additional growth south of the city's Downtown area. Once complete, the redevelopment will include 6,000,000 square feet (560,000 m2) of new residential, retail, office and hotel space, and a marina. As of July 2012, roughly 900 of the projected 4,000 Harbor Point residential units had been constructed. A very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everybody. This Christmas, I couldn't help but to think of the families missing their loved ones following the terrible tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut. I am fully aware that there is very little we can do to console the families and loved ones affected this Christmas, but for those of you, like me, who wanted to find a small way to help, we created this PSA: http://youtu.be/7DmXGdWI8Ls for The Sandy Hook School Support Fund. The fund goes entirely to the victims' families and to services to help the surviving children cope - no management fees will be taken by the United Way. It is my sincere hope that this can offer just the slightest hint of solace this Christmas as these families bear the unfathomable. Anyone interested in broadcasting the PSA, please email us at newtown@quincyjones.com and we will give you a link to download a broadcast quality file. Deepest gratitude to Parker Ighile, who wrote, produced, performed, and donated the song entirely for free -- with the simple hope that he could do something for these victims. Further thanks to Getty Images, who donated the photos used, Joe Cipriano who donated the voiceover, and to Cimarron Entertainment for producing and editing the piece entirely for free just to help. My deepest and sincerest condolences to those who have lost this Christmas; this is my smallest gift for you. Love, Quincy Jones. Some information on the UW Fund: United Way of Western Connecticut is committed to providing support and resources where and when they become identified and needed. As people from our area and beyond respond to this heartbreaking tragedy, they are turning to United Way looking for ways to help. In response, United Way of Western Connecticut in partnership with Newtown Savings Bank has created the 'Sandy Hook School Support Fund' that will be able to provide support services to the families and community that has been affected. QCIC, funded by the US Economic Development Administration (EDA), UConn, and Connecticut Innovations, enables business growth of small and medium-sized technology and manufacturing enterprises (SMEs) in rural Tolland, Windham, and New London Counties. The program brings the latest technology from UConn research to the SME’s by collaborating with faculty who specialize in their area of focus. Projects benefit from the capabilities of the new Proof-of-Concept Center at UConn which is located in Tech Park. They will also have access to the new CT Manufacturing Simulation Center (CMSC) to enable rapid prototyping that will further facilitate growth. Loos and Company manufactures a wide variety of wire, aircraft cable, and wire rope. These products are used in aerospace, military, and commercial applications, including - aircraft flight controls, elevators, fitness equipment, rigging, and scaffolding operations. They are OEM producers for companies such as Boeing, General Dynamics, and Bombardier. Loos and Company has over 50 years of experience in the wire and cable industry. Through the partnership, UConn captured analytical data on Loos & Co. products that will help improve the quality and performance. This entailed working in specialized labs for the treatment of samples and sample analyses. The UConn-FEI Center for Advanced Microscopy and Materials Analysis (CAMMA) is one of the labs used to carry out electron microscopy work. © 2017 University of Connecticut
